Stuff for Alternity, the General Purpose, Multi-Function SciFi RPG

Dems good eps!

I like this game. It has enough precision for the Science Fiction genre (unlike, say, the AD&D mishmash) but still has a simplicity and clarity to keep the game smooth (unlike *shudder* ICE chart-reading mess). I don't mean to step on any toes, so don't go wacky-nuts bitch-cakes all over me. AD&D is the grandaddy of all RPG's, and as such commands respect much like a Chinese patriarch commands fillial devotion; he might be senile and confused now, but dammit he was here first and he paved the way for the rest of us. On the other side of the coin, some people like the endless chart look-ups, they do provide a precise result to an action (I recall on ICE table entry for electrocuition "your entire nervous system becomes a superconductor and your body instantly incinerates into a pile of ashes" or something like that.) But all that is not my bag.

BTW: Here on out Alternity will be short-handed as "Alt."

CREATION CHANGES are a few things I did to reconcile the character creation system with my concept of the way reality should be simulated in a game world. Some of the changes are purely semantical; the way the game designers use "Strength" as general physical potency as opposed to the connotation the rest of us have as a measure of muscle output, the use of damage versus injury, etc. Others actually change the outcome of the stats, such as injury points and fatigue points.

RULES CHANGES are a few rules changes that kinda drastically-but-not-really change the way things are done. I am going to spring these on my new group; they have not seen the Alt rules yet, so they shouldn't have to much trouble adjusting to the changes.

GEAR AND STUFF is my page of adapted equipment and occasional rules variants from works of science fiction. Example: Capt. Anthony "Buck" Rodgers, that wily OG from the pulp serials in the '30s, had a really cool rocket gun that I haven't seen written up anywhere else, and that is a shame.

CHARGE GUNS? MASERS? Why? The way these weapons are written up annoys me to no end. I think the authors were getting a little lazy or backed into a dealine corner when they thought these up.
