What Name?

Deciding a name for a child is thought intensive work. I fully believe that whatever name you give your child will shape them into that meaning. I also want to be somewhat unique and exciting. I didn't know any other person named Leonard growing up. Yeah there were some famous people, but no one that I knew personally. What name can we give our son that meets these simple requirements?

Margaret's favorite was Albert, but I'm not so hot for it. I haven't known any exciting or interesting Alberts. I have suggested Tekklo. It's a masculinization of a not uncommon Swedish name, Tekla, meaning gift/glory of God. I like it. Tek is a nice abbreviation that is very short (another important consideration because our last name is sooo long).

Estimated Time of Birth: 3 months, 3 weeks, 1 day

Loss of Identity

It's thrilling having a pregnant wife. Something new is always happening, sometimes good and sometimes not, but life is always interesting. The one serious downside is that as a father to be you just sort of sit on the sidelines. Margaret's mother and aunt visited us this weekend and talk ensued about pregnancy. It didn't matter that her aunt has never had a child, she was still full of advice. The few times somebody did talk to me, it was just gushing about what a "good job" I did. I didn't do anything yet! It almost seems that Margaret didn't even need to be there either, just her stomach so that the other women would have something to talk about. I don't expect this will change much until I can teach our boy how not to be cute so that his relatives will stop gushing over him.

Weekend at the Lake

We had a great weekend at a friend's parent's lakehouse. It's a nice little place with modern design elements and transparent corners, giving an excellent view of the lake. They've asked me to work on designing an addition to it on the neighboring lot and I'm very excited about that. I've got to work out some kind of fee though. I'm thinking an electric guitar and an amp to help along my musical studies. Playing Guitar Hero at the lakehouse was a blast. With the open view you could easily imagine that were playing a show for the whole lake! A little more volume and the fantasy would have been complete.

Over the weekend our friend would make sure to insert Tekklo randomly into conversations. Margaret has warmed to the name and admits to liking it very much now, especially with the middle name of Albert. I used to wonder why people had middle names. Now I understand that it's to give the kid an option or because the parents just couldn't agree. We think Tekklo would be great as first name with a much tamer middle name to use if he later decides Tekklo doesn't fit.

Email Client War

So Margaret and I had a little spat over email clients. I noticed she had well over 100 email in her inbox dating back about 2 years. Admittedly that's not a lot to accrue in two years but there was no organization. I asked why (always a mistake) and she said that it's because the last time she tried to organize them her emails were deleted. I thought that was a great reason to switch clients and that's where fireworks started. I insisted we could find something that met all her requirements and she kept insisting that I was berating her for suggesting she change clients. Hormones, they always jump out at you when you least expect it and make every motion or comment a personal attack.
