2002 PNHS Show At The Pacific Science Center

Welcome to my page of show pics! There's a lot of them, so I split them up between 11 pages. I've got about a dozen pics of general displays, then the rest are critters. I wasn't able to identify some of the critters, and say so in the text. If you can ID any of those animals, please send me the name at jsronce@yahoo.com. Enjoy!

This is our set-up at the 2002 PSC show put on by PNHS. We had three tables and floor space for a 150 gallon stock tank. We shared the tables with Sarah F., Sarah H. (fr0glet), and Jenny and John. Together we had three Solomon Island skinks, a White's tree frog, a normal-phase cornsnake, two common snapping turtles, a common horned frog, two curlytail lizards, two female and one male leopard gecko, and a Columbian black & white tegu. Our tables were in the display-only area.

This is in the handling area. Most of the animals were in this room, and most of the attendees headed straight in once it was pointed out. The handling room was wide and open, with high ceilings, and the sunlight came in the windows to fill the room.

PNHS members brought their own animals and equipment.

Nothing was for sale. The purpose of the show was to educate the public and dispell myths.

Here you can see the floor-to-ceiling windows in the Ackerley Gallery.

The Pacific Science Center knows how to bring in the public! There were brief lulls when Joe Wasilewski, a wildlife biologist, hosted presentations on herps which included a live crocodile and alligator. The crowds were drawn to the other end of the building for them, but as soon as the show was over they would come back.

Most of the animals were brought in temporary tanks much smaller than their home enclosures, but the big critters went home for the night and were brought back the next day.

You see everything from Reptariums to glass aquariums to custom-built, furniture-quality enclosures.

Many PNHS members do outreach programs at schools and such, and brought educational displays.

Heck, they even brought a display on outreaches! The show gives us an opportunity to get the word out and sign up more schools and groups.
