There's no bridge.  The orbital laser used to cut the canal wasn't as precise
as current models.  They were forced to just gouge a scar in the earth, and
separate the continents once and for all.  And given the lack of metal deposits
near the new canal and the cost of importing such materials, no bridge has
ever been built.

What the hell are you thinking?  Of course there are bridges.  Specifically,
search for the Bridge of the Americas.
