This is the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) file for the EFNet irc channel #aggies. The original version was written by Fetch on July 5, 1999.
Q: What is irc?
A: Go away.

A3: This is the most prevalent client used by Windows users, and this is the most prevalent client in use by the non-Windows users on the channel, are you happy?
Q: What if (I don't want to|I'm too stupid to|I'm unable to) install an irc client on my home computer?
A: You can irc from the ACS or Unix clusters
Q: Noone will help me get into IRC from the unix or acs machines!
A: That would be because IRC isn't supported by CIS
A2: From the fox, scully, or $ prompt (on ACS), type:
irc somenick irc.lightning.net
Q: As soon as I join the channel, I'm kicked off!
A: Assuming your nick isn't offensive and lame, and that the ops are not especially bored, and that the channel is not currently taken over, its remotely possible you are trying to irc from a permanently banned site. As of this writing, the EE department is banned from #aggies, because of repeated abuse from its admins and users. Most other bans are either temporary, or focus on a specific user (like the dk69 or dionysus bans)
Q: I joined the channel, and noone would talk to me
A: Maybe you didn't have anything interesting to say?
Q: Y'all are the best and brightest of TAMU's computer elite, right? Then why won't you help me (get warez|bypass the firewall|use bitchx on the unix cluster)

A: A kick is a warning (or a joke between friends). Rejoin and behave if you're new, or retaliate if you're brave.
Q: I was just kickbanned!
A: Wow, looks like you really pissed someone off now. Luckily for you, the people who can set permanent bans pretty much make it a rule not to do so to newbies, the first few times. You should be able to rejoin in 15 minutes at the most.
